A RESPECTED vicar has called for better understanding of the true meaning of Easter - to prevent the sacred festival becoming 'secularised' like Christmas.
Rev Graham Sawyer, of St Barnabas Church in Woodford Green, said that marking the occasion was "hollow" if people did not know the story of Jesus's death and resurrection.

MEMBERS of one of the borough's Safer Neighbourhoods Teams (SNT) helped some law students during a fun workshop last week.
A-level students from Woodbridge High School, in St Barnabas Road, Woodford Green, took part in the Police Powers day with officers from Roding ward, as a way of expanding their understanding of how the law is applied in practise.

ORION'S Georgia Tuckfield stole the show as Essex won the Inter County Cross Country Championships in the under-13 girls' category in Birmingham at the weekend.

UNION members will picket a Woodford Green primary school tomorrow in a continuing dispute over pay.
General workers' union GMB confirmed teaching assistants at Roding Primary School will protest tomorrow morning as part of a second planned walk out.
It is believed up to 34 staff will be involved in the strike and the council has said the nursery will close during the day, although the rest of the school will remain open.

A HAPLESS thief from Buckhurst Hill is facing charges for robbeing a supermarket, after he and another accomplice went to a police station to ask about a third man who had already been arrested for the crime.
Conor Thorne, 18, of Cherry Tree Rise in Buckhurst Hill, went to Barkingside police station just hours after the robbery at the nearby branch of Somerfield in the earlier hours of Sunday March 7.

A MAN from Woodford Green is one of a trio facing charges for robbery, after two of the suspects came to the police station where the third was being held to ask about their accomplice before they too were arrested.
Rocky-Lee Beale, 18, of Purleigh Way, Woodford Green, was remanded in custody he and two accomplices broke into a branch of Somerfield in Barkingside High Street.
Officers were called at around 2:27am on Sunday March 7 after a nearby residents saw the three breaking into the supermarket.

A MAN and a woman have been jailed following a raid on a cannabis factory in a quiet residential street.
Pauline Than Nguyen, 36, and Quang Van Vu, 60, were caught by police during the bust at a house in Wansford Road, Woodford Green in January last year.
Officers from Roding Valley Safer Neighbourhoods Team (SNT) arrested the pair on suspicion of cultivating cannabis and illegally abstracting electricity .
